I can’t believe October is already here! You know what that means?? Halloween is around the corner. I’m probably sounding like a broken record here but I love FALL season and with that comes Halloween, pumpkin patches, corn mazes, apple cider, ghoulish figures and ghosts, costume parties, and everything in between.
While I was home, my little sister wanted to make some treats and suggested we make some Halloween-themed cupcakes. I’m always up for a good cupcake so we headed out the store, baked a batch, and this is what we came up with.
Our theme was “Halloween” so we ended up decorating the cupcakes with skeleton faces, spider webs, pumpkin faces, and sprinkles! All of the cupcakes were iced with white buttercream frosting (except the pumpkins), we used black decorator’s icing to make the faces/web, and then we dipped a few into the sprinkles. For the pumpkins, we used the orange gel to dye the remaining frosting and once again used the black decorator’s icing to make the face.
These were easier to make than I had initially thought and all you need are a few key things:
- Favorite buttercream icing
- Orange food coloring (I like using the gel- a little goes a LONG way)
- Black decorator’s icing
- Writing tip with a coupler (for black icing)
- Toothpicks (to outline the spider webs)
There are so many options on what to decorate. I seriously think the sky’s the limit here- you can get creative with not just the icing, but candy pieces, spooky faces, and cupcake liners to name a few quick ideas. I hope these cupcakes jumpstart your inner “ghoul” into baking some hauntingly delicious and scarrryyy cupcakes this fall season.
